What Happens When You Set 15,000 Pounds On Top Of One Of Our Crates?

By Jeff Park, President

Your products need to be protected during shipping and I feel like American Crating Company is the best solution.  I will
admit my opinion is a little biased.

I recently sent out videos showing our crates being dropped from 25 feet in the air and falling out of a truck at 50 MPH.
In each case the contents remained safe and undamaged.

So what happens when you place a trash bin with 15,000 pounds of wood scraps on top of one of our crates?
Click the video to see:

Your shipping contents deserve maximum protection.  There’s no guarantee your crate won’t fall off of a truck or get dropped when being lifted onto a ship or even have another much heavier item fall on top of it.

As you can see, we build our crates to the highest standards – including the ability to withstand thousands of pounds of external pressure without breaking.  If you have an upcoming crating project, give me a call or send me an email (please don’t reply directly to this email, the reply will go to our email company).

Watch Our Crate Fall Out Of A Truck At 50 MPH Without Damaging The Contents

By Jeff Park, President

You may remember a video I sent out a few months ago of a crate we built falling 25 feet without breaking.  I truly believe our products are the best protection for your valuable cargo, so I decided to make a few more videos to prove it.  Click on this video to watch one of our crates fall from the back of a truck and bounce (in super slow motion) over 100 yards down the road.  Not only does the crate not break but the contents are completely undamaged:

Doesn’t your shipment deserve maximum protection?  At American Crating Company, we’ve been custom building the area’s best crating and packing solutions for 40 years and we strive to make sure all of our packaging meets regulatory requirements and shipping deadlines.

And it’s tough.  Really tough.

I Am Thankful

By Jeff Park, President

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up later this week, I realize I have much for which to be thankful.  Healthy family, great friends, and enough of the things we need to be comfortable.

There are two groups however for which I’m very grateful and would like to acknowledge: our customers and our employees.

First, we have many longtime, loyal customers and I am so thankful.  Obviously, we wouldn’t be here without you.  I probably don’t say “thank you” often enough.  Please know that on this Thanksgiving that when we sit down for our holiday meal I will remember that your support of American Crating provides for my family and our employee’s families.

Which brings me to the other group for which I am thankful, our employees.  Over 60 team members work 3 shifts at our 2 locations everyday delivering the best packing and crating in the Southwest.  I couldn’t be more proud or more grateful for their service and just want to thank them for all of their hard work.

Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Holiday.

With thanks,

Money Saving Tip #5: Onsite vs. Port City Crating (Part 2)

By Jeff Park, President

Last time we talked about how packaging and crating onsite at your location can save money vs. loosely loading shipments onto trucks and driving them to a port city for crating (since loose loads are far more likely to be damaged or destroyed over-the-road on the way to port).

Not only can onsite crating save money by keeping products safer, but also by reducing handling and trucking/freighting expenses.

Packaging and crating onsite often reduces freight volume.  Custom crating offers the opportunity to nest your product safely in a container built specifically to protect your project from the moment it leaves your facility.  Onsite crating also gives you the ability to efficiently stack and secure containers for transport.  For example, a large pipe job properly crated can often stack and secure twice as much per shipment as loosely loaded pipe, reducing trucking / freighting cost by up to 60%!

For safe shipping and saving on freight and trucking expenses, it makes financial sense to package and custom crate your products before they leave your location rather than loading products loosely on trucks and driving them to port for crating.

Money Saving Tip #4: Onsite vs. Port City Crating (Part 1)

By Jeff Park, President

At American Crating Company, we’ve been building custom shipping containers onsite at customer locations for nearly 40 years.  Why?  Mostly because our customers save money; sometimes a lot of money.

It makes financial sense to package and custom crate your products before they ever leave your location rather than loading products loosely on trucks and driving them to port for crating.

The most dangerous leg of any shipment is the time spent transporting products over-the-road.  Statistically, your product is much more likely to be damaged in a highway accident, get struck by outside debris and tree branches, or even fall from a flat bed than to suffer a problem once it is loaded on a boat.

For example, loading products loosely on a truck in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then driving them uncrated to a Houston port puts those products at risk for over 500 miles and up to 24 hours.  A lot of damage can occur in that time.  Damage that can be avoided by simply packing and crating products onsite at your location before they leave.

Onsite crating can also save money by reducing handling and trucking/freighting costs.  We’ll go into that in detail next time.

American Crating Company will quickly mobilize a team  of professionals to build and prep for shipping from your location

To find out more about American Crating Company Onsite Crating, give me a call or send me an email.  We’ll customize the discussion to determine how onsite crating can save money for you.

Money Saving Tip #3: Mode Of Transport

By Jeff Park, President

Today’s Money Saving Tip is about how your crating and packaging expenses are affected by your transport selection:

Most Common
The most common modes of product transport are truck, ocean vessel and airplane.  Each has specific rules and regulations governing the size, construction, weight and other components of moving product from location to location.

Trucks are a common mode of product transport,  but unlike American Crating Company, not every packaging company is an expert in trucking-specific crating restrictions

Restrictions
Understanding load and permitting restrictions for each transportation mode is critical.  If your product is packaged and crated correctly for your home state but not for the state to which you’re shipping, you could be exposing yourself to long delays and even hefty fines.

Lumber
Lumber restrictions are often the issue in these types of situations.  Specific loads may require specific lumber types and weights; utilizing the wrong materials can affect not only the cost of construction but whether your product leaves on time.

Our Knowledge Can Save You Money
At American Crating Company, we know the rules, regulations and restrictions involved in shipping almost anywhere.  Bring us in during your project’s planning phase and we’ll put that knowledge to work utilizing the correct materials and meeting all load/permitting restrictions to ensure making your shipping deadlines.

Money Saving Tip #2: Distance Makes A Difference

By Jeff Park, President

Today’s Money Saving Tip concerns the distance your crating and packaging will travel. Distance not only affects shipping costs but how you much you should spend on crating:

Short or Long Distance?
The distance the product will travel influences the construction of the crating and packaging. Items traveling short distances may only require secure tie-downs and environmental protection; lowering the cost.  Longer hauls likely need tougher, more protective packaging inside and outside of the crate.

Short distances may only require secure tie-downs, a less expensive option than crate construction. American Crating Company’s experts can offer the most cost effective solutions for your projects

Long distances may demand more protection for your products.  Heat shrink, vacuum packing and custom packaging are all specialties of American Crating Company

How long will it be stored upon arrival?

Items that will remain packaged or in storage may need heat shrink and/or vacuum packing for protection from the environment.  In some instances, we’ll even construct pitched metal roofs to protect wooden crates left outdoors from rain and snow.

Get us involved during the shipment planning process and we’ll create a custom quote based on the distance and recommend the most efficient crating and packaging for the project. We can often turn a quote around the same day depending on the size of the project.
